Featuring local talent Archie McAllister, master fiddler and Angus Martin, historian, story-teller and poet, this is a rare opportunity to see these artists together in the gracious setting of Glenbarr Abbey on the remote western shore of Scotland’s Kintyre Peninsula. Help us make this magical night a reality and YOU can see it, too! Hosts for the ceilidh are Lady Jeanne MacAlister of Glenbarr Abbey and Stephen and Lori McAlister of Lincoln, Nebraska on behalf of the Clan MacAlister Charitable Trust.
It was the custom of a generous laird to open his home and his larder during the winter festivals to feast his servants, neighbors and friends. In this spirit, we are seeking patrons to underwrite the expenses of hosting this ceilidh. The area is beautiful, but sparsely populated, so we want to remove potential barriers to attendance. I am hopeful that this event will become part of a larger series of programs that will breath new life into Glenbarr and preserve the tradition of patronage of Highland arts. This is only the beginning!
Please help us to return a traditional, seasonal celebration in this 18th century manor house. Extend with us ancient Celtic hospitality that has characterized this region for centuries while making connection with current generations. There is no better way to usher in midwinter than to share the folk art that is particular to this place and season!
